The Elements of Art are the artist's guide to Creativity

We use them everyday. They are the cornerstone, the starting point to everything visual. The Elephants of Art is the first in a fun series of educational art stories that introduce young kids to art basics and art history as well. This entertaining story will capture different levels of interest for all children.
Use of this basic knowledge can be seen everywhere. It extends far beyond the world of art...the way cars are designed...all kinds of fashion - clothing, jewelry, hairstyles...buildings, landscape, etc. It can also be seen in math and science applications. On the other hand, it could prompt a nice thought when you see the way a shadow falls from a fence in your yard. Overall, knowing the elements will reveal a heightened visual awareness which may lead one to understand a work of art or see the beauty in things that might otherwise pass them by.
These examples are meant to explain how far a little knowledge can go. My true goal is to show children all they can draw using these elements. Most young kids are proud to know their shapes and colors. Imagine their excitement when they see the drawing opportunities by putting them together. Still, the bottom line is the book is fun and that's what's important with young children. It doesn't feel like learning. If they enjoy this book, they will retain some of it. Even if it's just a thought or seed that they come back to a few years down the road.
I decided I wanted to be an artist when I was in Kindergarten...not a ballerina, or a princess, but an artist. Designing, painting, teaching...all things I love, all part of some big creative plan. My work stems from a solid background, many years of experience in several aspects of art.
Born and raised in NJ, I studied at The New York School of Visual Arts and achieved a BFA in Media Design. I began a long freelance career shortly after and was lucky to create work for several excellent companies on an ongoing basis. In 2008, I made the decision to pursue an interest in Art Education and have spent the last 10 years teaching young children while finding new ways to instill the same art basics I use everyday. This time has allowed me to create and implement successful art programs that incorporate basic elements of art, drawing skills and art history. These techniques provide a fun comprehensive foundation of art education for pre-K and elementary aged kids. The children also spark my creativity with their fresh and innocent take on all things around them.
